Escalation in the US-Iran standoff just got more serious. US Marines seized an Iranian-flagged tanker (MV Touska) carrying dual-use chemicals from China. These are materials that can be used to build ballistic missiles. The ship tried to run the US naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman. After warnings, the Navy disabled it and Marines boarded.

Details from the intel brief: Cargo originated in China Dual-use chemicals tied to Iran's missile program Ship had recent stops in Chinese ports This comes amid the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports China's role in supplying Iran is now under even more scrutiny.

Iran's response? Today, the Revolutionary Guard seized two container ships in the Strait of Hormuz as vessels tried to cross. Result: Brent crude spiked above $100/barrel as markets freak out over potential disruption to ~20% of global oil trade. This is a classic "tit-for-tat" at sea (blockade vs. seizures) with huge energy market implications.

Markets hate uncertainty, but the S&P remained unaffected even with Brent crude spiking above $100/ barrel. This tells me the market no longer sees Iran's threats as credible: 1. The US gets little of its goods from the Gulf, so domestic markets don't care 2. If push comes to shove, American attack helicopters and aircraft will eat these small craft for breakfast

Bottom line: Tensions are rising fast in one of the world's most critical shipping lanes. Oil volatility is back, supply chain risks are climbing, and the China-Iran supply link is now front and center. I cover topics like this weekly in my free newsletter: https://www.breakingmetrics.com Markets hate uncertainty, and right now there's plenty of it. What do you think happens next? Ceasefire holds or things spiral?
